MOUSE NOT FOUND! . . .
Issue 1

Hello, and welcome to the first edition of Mouse Not Found!   In this column we’ll report on activities on the CTVCA website, and guide you around the more feline-orientated areas of the Internet.

Well lets start with our very own website, Vantasia, the official website of the CTVCA!  If you haven’t already visited us, we can be found at the following address (or URL for the more computer-literate amongst us):

http://www.vantasia.org

The Vantasia site has been up and running for over a year now, and has accommodated over 3400 visitors at the time of writing.  Many of these visitors are from beyond our shores too, the site having attracted interest from America, Australia, South Africa and many other countries, some of which have been so impressed that they are now CTVCA members.  This is a great achievement, and one that we want to continue and improve on.  You can read what some of our visitors have to say by viewing the Guestbook, and while you’re there, why not leave a message for your fellow surfers too!

So what else will you find on our site?  Well, our club’s mission is to ensure the welfare and preservation of the Turkish Van cat, so an important section is dedicated to our rescue activities and facilities.  If you’ve never seen the Honey Homes before, well you can now!  You’ll also be able to read some accounts of past rescues, which I’m sure will bring a lump to your throat.  When we have ongoing rescues we’ll put all the details here too, as an appeal for help in finding loving new homes for the unfortunate victims.  A result of this area of our website is that we have expanded our list of propective new homes quite significantly.

Another important aspect of our website is advertising the breed to raise the public awareness.  You’ll be able to read about Laura Lushington & Sonia Halliday’s visit to Turkey in the 1950’s, which proved to be a landmark event as far as Turks were concerned, and also discover some of the history behind the breed.  Recently we have added a photo gallery as well, so visitors to our site can see what beautiful animals our Turks really are.  Contributions from club members are very welcome, and we particularly want amusing, unusual, or cute pictures to expand our collection, but no professional style photos please!

We’re always looking for new ideas, so if you think you have something to contribute, email us at .

Okay, so what else is out there on this Internet thing?  The answer is, of course, just about everything you can possibly imagine, the problem though is finding your way around.  Well, we can help you there, with our Beginners’ Guide to Feline Friendly Forums for Feisty Furballs:

SHOPPING

For the best in online shopping take a look at http://www.petz.co.uk, where you’ll find some excellent bargains on a wide variety of products.  Here you’ll find climbing frames and other cat entertainments well below shop prices, and not just cat bits too, since this site caters for all types of pet.  Down Fido!!

HOMEOPATHY

For an alternative treatment you might like to try some of the many homeopathic remedies on the market.  To find the right ones for your felines surf along to http://www.ainsworths.com where you’ll find all you need to know about these medicines.

GCCF

The GCCF homepage can be found on the web at http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/gccf_cats/ and contains an assortment of information, including show dates, stewarding regulations, registration requirements, and links to other GCCF affiliated clubs.  Towards the latter part of the year you’ll also be able to get the latest news about the Supreme, the GCCF’s own cat show and in many respects the highlight of the show year.

GRAPHICS

Whether you’re designing your own website, or producing an advertisment, its always useful to have a good source of clip-art.  At http://www.cats.alpha.pl/catdesigns/ you’ll find a wide selection of graphics and other bits’ n’ bobs, ideal for adding a bit of spice to your designs.

CATTERY

Many breeders now have their own websites, and we thought we’d point you towards one that we’ve found interesting.  http://pages.prodigy.net/karen_hooker/karen_hooker is the home of the Pairodocs cattery, an American site that has some interesting articles and links concerning Turkish Vans.  The name is derived from the professions of its founders, who together are a pair of doctors, i.e. pair o’ docs!  Well there’s logic there somewhere!

I’m afraid that’s it for this edition of Mouse Not Found!  Watch out for us in future editions of Vantasia though, where we’ll be keeping you up to date with what’s new on the Internet both at home and abroad.  See you then!
