Microchipping your Cat

Being able to microchip your cats can be a great asset to a breeder, and when you sell your kittens you'll have piece of mind such that if they are stolen or lost they can be returned to their owner or you. There is a company called The Pet Chip Company that runs courses, you can bring up to three pets to be microchipped on the day. When you have completed the course, you will get a certificate. The Pet Chip Company can be reached on 020 7625 2828. You can purchase the microchips, microchip guns, scanners etc from them.

The Pet Chip Company uses Trovan ISO microchip and the Trovan ID-100 premium microchip use the latest technology in animal identification and are sold throughout the world, they are the standard, except for America, which use AVID, which our scanners cannot read and vise versa, so there is no point microchipping a kitten that you are sending to the States.

The implantable microchip is just 12mm long and 2mm in diameter (about the size of a grain of rice) and carries a unique identification number, either 10 or 15 digits long. It is made out of inert materials to avoid rejection by the body, has no power source and has an anti-migration cap to avoid movement once professionally implanted. Microchips are now manufactured to an International Standard (ISO 11784 and ISO 11785).

Petlog, is the largest national pet registry, and is the registry, that is widely used in the UK, to register your pets with, once they have been microchipped, and this can be done online at http://www.the-kennel-club.org.uk/

At present, there is a move in Europe to unite the registries, currently in its early stages, but when it is up and running, it will be very advantageous and will make life a lot easier, especially for people who export and import pets.

Please note we have no connection with The Pet Chip Company or any other microchipping service.  Please do not contact us in this respect.
