Duchess' Story

A story of love and devotion

On 23rd August 1997 Duchess came to stay at the Honey Homes  along with her litter mates.  We understood that they were about 16 weeks old  -  have you ever tried sitting a 16 week old kitten in the palm of your hand  -  it won't fit, but dear little Duchess did!

DuchessShe was very poorly with an upper respiratory infection, and was clearly undernourished.  We were all terribly concerned that Duchess and her sister would not survive, but to everyone's delight after only a few days of good food, love and warmth they both began to thrive, and by the time they left the Honey Homes they were absolutely blooming - a picture of health and contentment.

As you can see from her photo, Duchess has grown up to be a very beautiful and clearly much loved little lady.  Last summer her devoted new owners converted their garden into a cattery for her, and Duchess now has her own sun lounger complete with blanket and parasol!  Spoilt? - no!  It's what she deserves after such a terrible start in life.

Duchess is not alone in her new home, she shares is with a Burmese friend called Yorkie who is totally disgusted with the cattery, and true to "Turk tradition", Duchess constantly bites his bottom!

Sometimes rescue work can be heartbreaking.  At best it's time consuming, hard work, and costs money, but the reward of seeing our lovely Turks succeed and blossom in life by far outweighs the hardships.

When photos and letters of love and appreciation are received from the new owners, believe me, it makes the tears and heartache all worthwhile.
