Thomas, my Turkish Van cat, came to us about 2 yrs ago, in a dreadful state, he literally had hard wings on his back each side, where is coat had matted over the time he had been a stray! now he is with us, I have got to say that he is such a beautiful natured cat, and I love him to bits!.so glad to have found your site dedicated to the Turkish Van breed!

Hi we adopted a cat from RSCPA in Lincolnshire about 5 weeks ago, he was completely bald as they had shaved all his fur off and he was in a sorry looking state, extremely thin and very scared. I am told the RSPCA prosecuted his owners for cruelty. He came to live with us and over the past five weeks has blossomed into a very handsome cat, I showed a photograph of him to some friends of ours and they remarked that he looked very much like a Turkish Van Cat and so I looked up on the website and lo and behold he is one, and now I know why he does some of the things he does.

In October 2003,I adopted a young male cat from our local Humane Society.this was the best move I EVER made. As far as I can tell, Chester is a purebred Turkish Van (how he ended up at the Humane Society, I will never know!), and he is the sweetest natured cat I have ever had. I would certainly consider getting another after he is gone--but I hope that is many years from now!!

I was given Kissee in Kuwait, in 1995, when her guardians were returning to the USA. They had found her as a starving, abandoned kitten in a car park two years previously. I brought her back to the UK and she is still going strong, at 17. I had never heard of Turkish Vans but found a photo of one in a cat book and it could have been her! She loves to join me in the shower and drinks water out of a cup with her paw. She can open doors and loves to play. Kissee has always been a little nervous and doesn't like strangers nor a break in her routine, but she is very affectionate, and vocal. She is a wonderful friend and companion.

Hello I adopted a lovely cat from the local cat and dog home. After I got her home I thought maybe shes a pedigree and did some research - I thought she was a norwegian forrest cat untill I seen a photo in a cat book - turkish van! The same cream/chestnut colouring with a little black , amber eyes + brown spot on her neck. Think shes called a tortoishell. Wonder why she was abandoned? I've called her Maisie. Shes a gift!!

Hi, We just realized that our baby Sundae (named that because she is super sweet, a creamy white color with brown and black spots on her head and tail resembles a icecream sundae) is a Turkish Van. She loves the water and I am curious as to what salt water or chlorine would do to her lovely soft coat? I really wouldn't want to mess it up at all if either could so before allowing her I thought I would ask. Should I shampoo her after? She has her own little life vest (better to be prepared than sorry, I worry a lot about her) and sunscreen for her nose and ears when she goes outside. Does anyone know? or have any suggestions? Please feel free to message me? beachgirl_92818 on yahoo messanger. Thanks so much!

My husband and I adopted a cat 14 years ago from a animal shelter. We noticed a poster on a wall with many variety of cats and felt like he was a turkish van. True to the information we have read on the internet, he is definitely a turkish van. He loves to play hide and seek, and we always wondered why he likes to remove the water from his food bowl as well as constantly sit at the bathroom sink and wait for us to turn the water on. He is very intelligent and we joke that he runs the household. He has never been outside and it is only my husband and I. He has been the most wonderful pet and we love him very much.

My daughter has a Turkish Van cat that her son rescued from a parking lot. Someone had painted the kitty(at that time) with black paint. It took a long time for my daughter to get rid of the black paint and behold the beautiful feline underneth. This cat loves to swim and takes on the responsonabilty of the whole family. He is so smart and when the family brought two puppies into the home "Tigger" stood his ground. Let them know that he had his space and they were welcolm if they didn't try to take over his job. There are four cats in the home but "Tigger" is the one that just dares them to mess with him. He is a beautiful white long hair with the orange sherbert markings on ears, tail and some on his body. I have never seen such a smart beautiful cat.

I think this program is very good but you could let the people that are on it paint the picture not just fill it in.

I haven't been in touch with anybody in CTVCA for quite a long time now. I still have my big Coppertop - Wolfie - still going strong at 16 years old although looking a bit frayed round the edges. Wonderful to see all the beautiful kitties on the Website - makes me want one! Sadly, Bubbles died some time ago at the age of 13 years peacefully at home after a long illness. She was the best!

I am fostering a beautiful all white kitty with bluish green eyes who is most certainly either full blooded or partially Turkish Van. She is about two years old and has a typical engaging van personality. I already have a van, and I volunteer at the shelter she was in. She had been in a cage at Petsmart since 6/09 and was not doing well with other cats. (Typical Van) I brought Farrah home to give her some time in a real home. She cannot stay here forever, though. We have someone interested in adopting her, but wanted to put her out there for those that know this breed. Please contact me if you are interested in meeting Farrah and giving her a forever home.

The Turkish Van Cat Club show is due to be held at Bracknell on 3rd October. The schedule can be downloaded from the Turkish Van Cat Club website,. Why not bring along your Turkish Van, this year there is a class for pet Turks as well. Everyone is welcome and we would love to see as many cats/kittens as possible on show. Come to the show and have an enjoyable day out chatting to fellow Turk addicts.
