Simba came to us when his previous family had a baby and were concerned about the cat sleeping in the crib. We only found out recently that he is a Turkish Van Cat when we were watching a TV documentary on the breed. We had never previously heard of the breed but he certainly fits the profile.

Sylvia has been part of my family since 1995 and has definitely Van charecteristics. She's beautiful and a one-person cat. Are there any definitive characteristics that qualify / disqualify a cat?

The only real proof is by tracing their pedigree, but look for a silky coat with no woolly undercoat, tufts between the paw pads, and a look & build like the cat on our home page. |

I got a cat from the local humane society last July and have been puzzled about her breed. I now believe that she is part Van. Your temperment description fits her

I am looking for a female Turkish Van kitten or cat. There are no children or pets here, so she will live in a quiet home and get pampered.

Great site! My Van, Baby Jimmy is an amazing cat. The only breed I have ever owned that actually enjoys a scrub in the tub. Last Autumn, when our low-rise apartment had the annual invasion of mice from out-of-doors, I had no troubles. Baby Jimmy neatly deposited them half digested in his litter box! May all enjoy their finest family mamber!

Through the CTVCA website I would like to say a big thank you to everyone who has taken the time to send me used stamps to help our work in raising funds for the rescue/rehome cats. Please carry on sending the stamps, our welfare work is ongoing and vital, and we are constantly trying to raise funds to help the cats. Thanks again from me, but more especially thank you from the cats you are helping.

Several months ago I acquired a white and blue semi-longhaired female with amber eyes. I named her Simone de Beauvior. I doubt I could have found a purebred wandering the streets, but she seems to fit the physical description to a T. Van coloring, angora-like fur with no undercoat that doesn't mat, substantial feet, pink pads, etc...She follows me like a puppy, plays in the shower, sleeps in the sink, tries to tip over and walk in her water dish, greets me when I come home...I wish I knew her pedigree because from what I can tell, she would make an excellent show cat. I looke dup pictures of Turkish Vans and I haven't seen many gray and whites? Is Simone's blue coloring because of her likely questionable heritage?

Hi Erin, blue & white is a perfectly valid colour for a Turkish Van, although not a very common one. Although the colour is called blue, in fact it is grey, being a dilute form of black. |

I happened to be flipping through a cat book and discovered a picture that looked just like my cat! I'm a huge cat lover and have always thought of my Hefner as the best cat in the world. I found this website and found out that he has all the characteristics of a Turkish Van. Have few more questions on how to find out for sure if he could be one.

I had a wonderful cat, of whom I recently found had a full Turkish Van father! Finally an explanation fo rher unusual tail and few spots, so unlike most 'calicos'! Both Angel's parents and therefor her and Siblings where rescue cats. My ex-fiance still has her lovely and adorable sister Blankets

Thank you for the web site. We recently adopted a cat from a recue place and had no idea what kind of cat he was as I had never seen one like him before. After reading and looking through your web site there is little doubt that he is a Turk. Although he is still becoming comfortable with us and his new home, his personnality is certainly starting to come out. We love his head butts and his interst in our affairs. He also loves to play, lay on his back in the evening when we are lounging, and makes a trill noise when excited, usually while romping around with our other cat. He is already a great addition to the family!

What a wonderful site!
We have fallen in love with our Van which came to us as near death as it was possible. (about 1 3/4" side to side). She was so filthy and infested we could not allow her in the house, so I made a special house outside for her, and started the recovery process. About one week later she was well enough, cleaned up and pests, burrs and other critters gone. She recovered beautifully and is a treasure to have. Heaven help the person who would try harm either me or my wife. She protects and watches us at all times. My wife and I are in our 70's and she is the first cat we have had in over 20 years.
What a marvelous breed of cat.

This is a very well organized web site. I've got a van, Sylvester, and he definitely has been described accurately on your site. Especially going to the sink and drinking from the drip. We purposely don't fix our leaky faucet for that very reason. Thanks for this site.
