We lost our beatiful turk yesterday, she put up a valiant fight but sadly was not strong enough to pull through, I cannot express how sad my partner and I am that she has gone, she was such a character she has left a huge hole behind in our hearts, we got her as a rescue in 2001, she and her turk friend that she was housed with chose us when we got to the cattery, and that was that we took them both home. Turkish van cats are wonderful, full of character, and very chatty indeed, I think talking to her is what we shall miss the most, she always had to have the last word! as much as our hearts are breaking at the momont, we are glad she is at peace, thankfully we rescued 2 turkish vans, so we still have our 'Little' to keep us busy. and hope that one day we will feel able to provide a home to another beautiful rescue turkish van.

My Turkish Van is 8 years old and I have had him ever since he was just a kitten. He bounced through the picket fence one night at midnight, dropped off in front of my bed and breakfast inn. The little guy was just covered in fleas. I named him Kody. It didn’t take long for him to start bossing around my alpha cat. And yep, Kody can be very naughty! Kody is the most intelligent cat I have ever owned. It would be interesting to know what is going on inside his head because, I tell you, he is very opinionated. If I ask him to do something he doesn't want to do, he will hiss and growl, then come over and lick my fingers as if to tell me that I shouldn't take it personally. He doesn't like rain (he hisses at it), he doesn't like wind (he growls at it), and he doesn't like cold weather (he spits at it). Other than being a totally spoiled lovable cat, Kody is pure fuzzy affection. He is soooo fuzzy that he easily becomes over-heated during the hot summers here in California. A few weeks ago I bought a dog clipper kit (didn't tell Kody it said "dog" on the box). I had pretty good luck shaving most of his fur off his back, sides and around his neck. He seemed to know that I was helping him to feel better. Hopefully, we can forego his annual clipping at the vet's this summer.

I think I have a turkish van or at least a cat that some turkish van blood. She seems to have all the personality traits of a van. Even if she isn't a turkish van we still love her very much!

Sweetie joined our family from a shelter. I didn't know she was an "actual" breed until I found this site.

I was just reading your site and found the name Lois Miles. I got my Kedi from her in November 1995. He's Called Lourie (Ballantyne Lourie) and just thought i'd sign the guest book. He is in very good health, loves being king of the castle bossing the other cats around and enjoys goign for walkson his lead. If we have visitors he start parrading around the hosue. I'm sure he knows how beautiful he is. He's not a big fan of cuddles but he is very vocal, he talks about everything. going out, food, birds outside, catnip.

we own a turkish and his name is mickey. all the traits that are mentioned in peoples messages are exactly like him. he is such an affectionate cat with his very own personality.he has his really furry bottoms of his feet(yes they need cutting but its how these cats are and sets them apart) we got mickey when he was 8 years old. he had been mistreated in the past and settled in with us in no time at all. do these cats like being picked up? as he doesnt like being picked up at all and always struggles??. in the mornings when i go to work he always gets let out of the front room and goes up my mums bedroom and he gets in the bed next to her!!! lol and if its wet outside he wont go out as he hates getting his paws wet(must be all that long fir on them). hes not a very vocal cat but this breed isnt is it? hes had his fair share of illness as well. when he was young he had a tumour removed from his mouth, hes had a cyst removed from his cheek as well, but hes well worth every penny that is spent on him. hes part of the family!!!!! :0)

I wrote to you in March, 2007 (2 messages still in the list). I would love to find 2 breedable Turkish Van cats. I searched several web sites March 2007. I was told there are no authorized Canadian Breeders. One of your guests e-mailed me today asking if I have had success in finding a Toronto breeder, and I told her I couldn't even find a Canadian breeder. We both live in Toronto-do you know any authentic breeders in Canada?Things may have changed since last March. I was in touch with the Walcotts in United States who gave me excellent information a year ago, but confirmed no Canadian breeders. Thanks-Please let me know Nola in Toronto nolamacfour@sympatico.ca

Wow is all I can say. I have always known I had a very unusual cat but never heard of Turkish Vans as a breed. Max is very beautiful and you can't miss his beauty. He is about 6 years old now (in people years). He has all the charactoristics mentioned is fascinated with water but doesn't like to "Be" wet. He is very fat and Lazy between 20 & 25 lbs, and bratty at times waking us at 4 or 5 in the AM, just because he wants us to get up and be with him! I just Love him to pieces, he is so affectionate. His fur is exceptionally beautiful and his skin pink as pink can be! The information on the site has been really interesting. I just thought I had a very different personality of cat! Now I understand so much of why he is who he is. Thank you. C.P.

My Turkish Van GC Emily was 11 years old when I was gifted her by a local breeder. I had been on her kitten waiting list for the last 18 months when her human mother was diagnosed with a serious brain tumour and had to close down her cattery. She had to part with sixteen of her most loved furry companions - it was heart breaking! Emily was hand picked for me, as I had no other pets or children in my home (although fabulous with humans, Emily is not so tolerant with other cats). It was very emotional the day I collected Emily. Her human mother gave her one last big kiss on the head, to which Emily responded to with her classic head butt and brow lick goodbye! Sad to say, after putting up a good fight, her human mother died soon after. I now strive to love and care for Emily in her rememberance every day. She is a simply beautiful and devine cat!

Your site is delightful. We have a stray, white with gray markings who looks and acts very much like the Vans you describe. It is unlikely that he is of Van descent, but the resemblence is remarkable.

I enjoyed looking at your site and the pictures of the cats. Even though we fancy mice now, we have owned many cats in our lifetmes.

This message is difficult to type as my Van Cat, Abigail, insists on helping me type on my laptop. She is the first cat I ever had and recently a friend informed me that she has the markings and personality of a van cat. I got her from a litter well cared for in a barn setting. She is very intuitive. My mom is in the hospital and instead of being her "bold" self, she is attentive. I love her.

I have an 11 year old beautiful female Turkish Van, one of the most beautiful I've seen. I love her but must find a new home for her due to a major personal loss and life change. Missy loves adults and home activities but is afraid of children and does not like any other animals. She is the perfect companion for someone who is home a lot. If anyone can help with a good place to advertise her I would be greatly appreciative.
