I used to breed Turkish Vans (from genuine Turkish stock).
Pauline Halpin and I started most of the current breeders off in the Eastern States of Australia. Sadly we are no longer breeding but you will still see the name Yorkhouse in the pedigrees. Marilyn Brown

I've heard Turkish Vans called "Swimming Cats".
Why is that - are they supposed to like the water?
My Turkish Van (Bibi - known to some as "Beezio") hates the water.

Hi, I am the owner of a Turkish Van, but I am currently looking for a new kitten to help him in his mousing duties. As I only recently discovered his breed, I do not know whether I can obtain of a kitten in Ireland. Does anyone know a breeder who would be able to supply me with one?

We have aquired a Turkish Van puss from a breeder who no longer wants to breed them! Can you imagine?
The cat is pretty amazing - we have always had cats- five of them at one time, but never one like this.
She unfortunately has to put up with two dogs- a Lhasa Apso and a Shih Tzu which has made life around here somewhat of a scramble.
One thing puzzles us-she doesn't purr! Can anyone explain?
We love her just the same but wish we could settle on a name. Any suggestions??????

I have a Turkish Van that I too rescued from the Humane Society. I named him "Cleophus" and he is a handful! But so loveable that I want more. Know of any kittens? Anyhow, how can I get Cleophus's picture on your website? He really is a pretty kitty with lots of personality.

Hello from New Fairfield, Our cat, Pumpkin, was given to us by our neighbor, a Redding, CT animal officer who rescued her with a band of strays. She does all that is described including dropping her koosh toy into her water dish. She's about 10 months old now. She was in pretty bad shape when we got her. Now, she's just pretty.
Thanks for your web site.

This is a great site! My daughter recently spent a post-grad semester in Israel and while there she rescued a Turkish Van kitten near the Jaffa gate in the old city of Jerusalem. Hence, they named the cat Jaffa. We think he is about 3 months old now. We would be happy to send photos of him to your site.

I am thrilled to have finally have my suspicions confirmed about my cat Toby, whom I have long thought was a Turkish Van.
I got Tobes in January 1999 from the Lort Smith Animal Hospital in Melbourne. He was in a litter of about 6 kitties and was a white fluff ball! All the other kittens were tabby or tortishell, so he really stood out.
When I got him home he was very playful, bitey, loved water and playong "fetch".
One night on "Harry's Practice" a vet show on TV they road-tested the Turk. I suspected that me was one but he is pure white. Even still, he is physically and mentally a perfect Turkish Van.
Everyone always comments that he is more of a d*g than a cat. I love him dearly and take him everywhere with me (he also has a cunning sense of humour).
Turks Rule! Thanks, Jane.

I have a year and a half male His name is Timothy and when I first got him I had no idea what he was. He is huge, and still growing. His markings are perfect and even. Except for a spot the size of a quarter between his shoulder blades.Oh ya , he is an Auburn Van.
I don't mean to boast I just think he's the best. I would love to have another but I can't find a breeder in my area.If anyone can help me out I'd appreiciate it.
thanx alot

Being myself owned by a Turkish Van, I cannot possibly understand how any of these wonderful animals would be homeless, but I guess it happens! I truly wish we had a Van rescue in this country, but I've not heard of any. Your site is heartwarming.
