Our Perkins' mother was rescued in Albuquerque this past spring just before giving birth. A friend of mine asked if he was a Turkish Van, so I came to this site and was astounded.
Not only does he look just like the cats pictured here, his personality is exactly as described. I have lost all my houseplants Nothing in the house is safe from him, though he is calming a little.
He would join me in the shower if I let him, plays with his water dish, drops toys in it, is fascinated by the toilet.
Steals jewelry, shreds paper, follows me back and forth around the house, and loves high perches.
He is particularly fond of the high rotating stool in the kitchen.
When anyone goes to the kitchen he runs in, leaps up, and begs to be spun around.
I guess I've got a Turkish Van!

What a lovely website.
Our turkish vans exhibit typical TV behaviour - in summers both of them used to hang their paws in our swimming pool.
Unfortunately, this fun was forbidden after dad found out that their fur was blocking the pool filters. Piku was also known for his fetching tendencies - the neighbour's poodle got a hiding of his life when he thought that the paperball was meant for him...
"Little" Niki (well, all 7 kilos of him...) is very agile and likes climbing apple trees. He loves attacking falling apples and the facial expression after jumping on top a rotten apple is always worth of seeing.
Niki is already 14 years old, - originally, Niki and his half-brother were given to us as the original owner's daughter became allergic to cats.
From living in a crowded city, both boys moved into the countryside and I must say - they are the best mouse catchers ever. Boys have been known to bring in the occasional rat too... Niki has conquered my mother's pillow, and wont' sleep anywhere else.
Piku instead was known for his habits of trying to sneak into the sauna whenever he could. One made sure that one shut the sauna door very well, otherwise you would find a furry companion climbing up in order to sit next to you!

Fantastic site well done folks.
I have the pleasure of owning fafet nefis kiz, a fantastic 6 month old from the equally fantastic Marie St Clair.
I was wondering if anyone knew of any other Turkish Van owners in Ireland?
or am I the only one to have the pleasure of owning a Turkish Van in Ireland?
I swear she has grown every time I look at her at the moment. She is the worlds biggest smooch and always demands to taste what ever you are eating, I have even caught her sampling a chicken and mushroom pot noodle!
Always full of beans and our 4 yr old daughters best friend.
She will even go out and play with the other kids in the street.
If you don't already own a Turkish Van, get one! you won't regret it

I just was given a 10 week old Turkish Van. This is a new experience to me as I haven't had a cat in 30 years. I had preferred small dogs!
With what I have read...I may just have gotten the next best thing.
Her name is now Miss Kitty! She is white, grey on the head and tale rings.
Eyes are blue...GEORGEOUS! And when we talk, she meows! If its quiet, she is quiet!
Amazing cat! So sociable! I have just been diagnsed with cancer, and needed a lap friend.
I am so excited. God has sent me a little white furry angel!

I enjoyed your site very much. I have discovered my unusual cat is a Turkish Van. I don't know how popular they are here in the states but I know my cats father and mother are Turkish Vans and at least one Grandmother. I am researching the breed and your site was helpful.
Thank you!

I have a 1/2 golden siamese 1/2 turkish van. She is quite the cat. I have to keep the toilet lid down or she plays in the water. I have a pond and if was warmer I think as she ponders the water if she would really go for a swim.

We adopted two cats from the Humane Society and found out from a friend the other day that they were turkish vans. This website is very helpful, especially with explaining the love bites. These cats are great fun and we love them.

I have two turkish vans, amber and amelia.
Amber is amelia's mum.
These cats are the daughters i'll never have!
I love them to death, they are so placid and beautiful.
The breeder i got them from was going into hospital and could not look after them anymore, so he gave me a female[amber] for nothing turns out she was pregnant and gave birth to three bubs.
I had to give two away, they went to good homes.
A delightful breed to say the least.......deb

I met Charlie Brown as a four week old kitten petitioning people for food on a street in Jerusalem, Israel. I watched him lay under a car in a main busy street for three days on end, he was really sick. I didn't want to become emotionally involved with a pet. In the end I couldn't sleep so I went to where he was laying under a car and managed to get him to come to me when I swept him up, placed him in a small box and took him to the Vets. I thought he was too sick and I wanted him put down. He had a bad intestinal virus. The Vet gave him to relevant shots and I took him home. We fell in love and I had no idea he was a Turkish Van until I was to leave Israel. For the next four months I fought hard within the imigration legal system of both Israel and New Zealand to take him back with me to New Zealand. We are now inseparable and my family are amazed with Charlie Brown. He is now 2 years old and a novelty to everyone we know. We love him very much.

Our Turk, Patches, died last night at the age of 18. Although we didn't find out her breed until just a couple of years ago, Patches fit all the typical Turk attributes. We'll miss her very much.
Thanks for your site, it helps me remember her well, Sincerely, Ron Grossmann Hillsborough, NJ

I love Turkish Van sites because I liked learning all the history and important information. The reason I love learning about these beautiful treasures is because I have one of my own.He is a male Turkish Van cat with features that are so precious, he has a body full of white fur a blue cream tail, two dots on top o his head and one big spot on his right side.Well anyway I'm just a 13 year old who is obsessed with cats and will do everything to spoil my cat because he is my best andtrue friend, and thank you for those wonderful information about the history of the turkish vans I enjoyed it I also shared it with my cat so he can learn his history.I hope the best for my cat in the future I planto make him one of the most famous TURKISH CAT IN THE WORLD and I will work hard on that nomatter what it takes!
