Hi, this is a great website! I am a huge fan of Turkish Van cats I'm 13 years old and I got my first Turk on 5 May 2004, by Ann Dolley. Her name is Diamond and her birthday is 15 January 2004. I am currently a member of Vantasia and I am thinking of maybe breeding with Diamond when she is older. I now know for a fact that I will never have any other breed of cat than a Turkish Van because they are the best cats ever! Yours Truly, Claudette

What beautiful cats. Thank you for having this great website. There is a cat of this breed up for adoption today in Suprise Arizona. I would love to have the beauty. I have a maine coon female and I don"t think she would like competition. She is the master of this house. My doormat reads the cat and her housekeeping staff resides here,\.

I bought a turkish Van kitten last summer while in Istanbul. Needless to say all the affection I have for my lovely white odd eyed cat. She's unique in everything! My cat has been living in Istanbul where I used to go regularly. I relocated to Boston recently and wanted to bring it with me but I was told by the vet that Van cats cannot leave Turkey...would anyone know concrete information on this?

We got our cat Emma six months ago. She is now nine months old. I had never heard of a Turkish Van cat before. The first day we brought her home she jumped in the bathtub full of water and started swimming in circles. Of course, I thought she was drowning and took her out thinking she had fallen in. Well the next day in she went again. Every morning when it is time to take my bath, she sits by the tub and waits for me hoping to jump in. I have never seen a cat that enjoys taking a bath. She waits in line after our dogs to get her bath! The vet told us of her origin. She is certainly a delight!!

I just read some new entries to the site and viewed that I had written almost exactly a year ago. We are even more in love with our Turkish Van!! She has such a unique personality and her playfulness is keeping us young!!!! Just had to tell everyone about her funny reaction to our "Litter Maid". A "Litter Maid" is one of those electronic litter boxes. I was very careful to introduce it slowly so it wouldn't scare her. That part went very easily, she had no qualms about using it. It does make a certain sound when it goes to clean the box (about 10 minutes after the cat uses it.) Well, when the "box" goes off, no matter where she is in the house, she goes running to it and watches it very intently. She even has given it a good whack!!! It's a riot to watch. We are so delighted with her, that if we were to ever add another cat, it would have to be a Turkish Van.

I very recently heard of your organization. My husband and I are so sad..Our Turkish Van "Mollymoon has been ill for some time with kidney disease and it seems the end is so near. It is so hard to part with her. We have had her 9 years..found her in a shelter. She had been left behind by a family that just took off. It was love at first site when we met, and has been ever since. The vet said at the time that thought she was somewhere between 6 - 8 yrs. That was back in 1995. Well that would mean she is now about 15 or 16yrs. It is so hard to let her go. We know we must as she is so weak..She has refused food and drinking water from a bowl. She insists though, on going into the bathroom, struggling up on the ledge of the bath tub and drinking water from the running faucet, a trooper to the end...I hope Mother Nature excuses us for letting the water run, but we must as it is Mollymoon's wish. We would so appreciate being able to communicate with someone who knows of the splendorI speak, and if there is any suggestion to make this painful transition giving Molly up, please tell us how. Thank you Sincerely, Sherry Vames Scottsdale Arizona USA

Our beautiful Turkish Van "Sophie" died on Saturday, we don't know her age as we took her on as a rescue cat, she was with a breeder who died leaving twenty plus cats, there was an article in our local paper asking for good homes. Having lost our Siamese "Sammy" the year before, we were ready for a new cat, when we phoned to enquire if we might be suitable, we were interviewed by the rescue society and told to contact a cattery near Skegness to see which cat we might like, the woman there told us 2 cats were left, one about 5 "Leanie" and a very much older cat "Sophie", she also told us in no uncertain terms that they weren't very nice cats. We went to choose our cat and needed to buy a cat box, on the way we bought 2, as I couldn't stand the thought of leaving either of them with that woman, the cats cried all the way home and were very distressed, poor "Sophie" had messed and been sick and needed bathing (that was fun) "Leanie" went into hiding under our bed for 3 days, "Sophie" forgave us for introducing her to water (I thought they could swim) and ate non stop for 3 days. Unfortunately we only had "Leanie" for a few months as one night she went missing and we never saw her again, we trawled the streets for weeks searching for her. Then earlier this year we realised "Sophie" had a tumour, due to her age and condition we decided we had to let nature take it's course as an operation would be too much for her. Perhaps you wonder why I'm bothering to tell you all this, its to ask you please go with your own feelings, don't let anyone else tell you what's nice and what't not, if we hadn't gone to get those cats we and they would have missed so much fun, love and wonderful memories, now all we have is heartache and grief but hopefully when it's passed we can give another unfortunate cat a loving home.

Four years ago this March I had to put down my 15 1/2 yr. old toy poodle - one of the hardest experiences of my life. Two months later, my olderst daughter (she owns a Turkish Angora) took me to a woman who breeds Angoras and Vans to find another companion. Desert Rose had just turned 4 yrs. old that February but she was a tempermental Van - I believe due to mistreatment by 2 previous owners. I was unsure of taking an abused and older cat - it had been almost 16 yrs. since I'd owned a cat! But when I entered the cage where she was isolated (doesn't get along with others), she hesitated, circled the chair i was sitting in and then gave me her tummy to rub! Even the breeder was amazed! I took her home that day, bathed her - which she loved but no blow dryer, please! - and promptly found a hiding place for the next 3 months. The only indication that there was a cat in the house was an empty food dish each day. Sometimes she would watch me sleep from a chair across the room but she was a ghost for many months. I'm happy to report that with time, patience and trust she has become a new cat! She has gone from my never being able to pet her to sharing head butts and curling up in my lap. She even tolerates being held for short periods of time. She has every trait I've ever read about a Van and then some! While she can still revert to being a bit of a brat, I am hooked on the breed and hope to have Rosie for many more years to come! Thank you for your website - it's wonderful to know these beautiful cats are becoming known around the world.

Hello. I sent an email last May in regards to joing the C.T.V.C.A. The reply I received stated the Membership fee as $12.00 single/$16.00 Joint. Are these still the fees and how does the joint fee differ from the Single fee other than the amount? Thanks in advance, Pablo A Vasquez

This is so amazing. I was watching Animal Planet last week and saw a special on Turkish Van cats, and they looked exactly like my cat. I have had her for 6 years and always thought she was a mixed bread or a calico- I got her from the pound! Now I find out she is a Turkish Van cat. She has many of the characteristics and personality traits. She is the best cat- so personable and loving! Cheers to Turkish Van Cats!

Hi. I recently got a kitten from a local animal shelter. The manager said that the kitten's a tabby, however I saw a picture of a Turkish Van when I took him to the vet for a check up. The resembance was so uncanny, that I decided to get more information on the breed. He fits just about everything. The colors, the coat, and the personality. Though I'm still somewhat unsure if he actually is a Turkish Van or not. He does have a red spot close to his back right leg, so I named him Jupiter. Anyway, whether he's a Turkish Van or not, I'd love him just the same. It was just idle curisousity. I really liked your website and I appreciate the information. It shed a bit more light on the subject. Thank you.

I am only 12 and I have a cat named fluffy so I know how fun turkish van cats can really be. Just about a year ago my cat almost died after getting bitten in the face by a dog. I am so greatful that my cat survived because he is my life. I got my cat because when I was a little kid everyone made fun of me. I had no friends. so my mom decided to do somthing about it. I shure wish that in some way i could help the turkish vans that you save. I would just like to say thanks for helping those inisant cats.

I was over in Bahrain for a year and stopped at the Bahrain SPCA. To pick up a kitten. They were all whiney and cryin. It was in the heat of the summer I looked down saw a fuzzy white and tan cat with amazingly huge gold eyes strong facial features he looked to be an adolencent not quit an adult. I asked if he was up for adoption they said yes and they had allready fixed him so I would have to pay more for him I put the brat kitten away asked them to hold him he instantly began to purr. The Brittish lady walked in looked at him and me "He hasnt bitten you yet" He choose me and yes he has bitten me sence but I love him and he does rule the house I call him Mr Samual Lee he could be a General I have suspected he could be a pure breed I didnt know what I wiil send a photo when I return home from leave. I want to know more and I would love to help he is an awsome cat. He has a dignity, or like he knows he is rolity about him.
