Hello, I have a Van cat and I love him so much. his kind is very famous and loved in my country but I never thought that they were this loved all around the world too. I'm so happy to hear this because they really need love. they are under the protection of 19 Mayıs University in Van and I generaly get information from there. a couple of weeks ago I learned a new thing about them and I wanted to share it with you all. in the university a new Van cat was born but its fur is full black. A black Van cat from a pair of original Van cats. and all other cats including its parents are avoiding it because of it's color. I felt so sorry about it. I hope they will give good care to it.

We got a cat this summer from our friends. They said that was a stray/wild kitten. Everybody found it odd that he had one gold eye and one blue eye. Sp I recently looked it up and found the Turkish Van. He is very simalar to the breed, with red on his head and tail and a couple of spots on his back. He also loves any running water. I was wondering if maybe their was a breeder in our area? He is about 4 months old and is like no other cat we have had before.

Hi, I have seen a male Turkish Van in a Western Suburbs pound yesterday. Big friendly boy, with big (usual) fuffy tail. Can anyone advise any rescue services who may consider him ? I would be happy to transport him from the pound to somewhere (?) in Sydney If not, I fear his last day/s will be 29 or 30th of November (Yes, next week) ! Thanks, Janette I have 6 cats plus 3 kittens on rescue, so I can't temporarily home him myself.

What a wonderful site. The daughter of a friend of mine, whom has worked with cat shelters and has a great love for felines, was visiting recently. She saw my cat, Simon, and asked me if he had an attraction for water. She mentioned he might be a Turkish Van. I told her I'd never heard of the breed but yes he had indeed had a fascination for water from the time he was a kitten. I had been attracted to him because of his unusual coloring of white and auburn. I decided to do a search and found this site. What a wonderful surprise. Thank you for all the info. It was so nice to discover the history and background on my "pal". The interesting thing is my friend Tom,the father of my cat's identifier, is a trader in antique textiles and spends a great deal of time in Turkey each year. We share a love of Anatolian Textiles and Rumi. I'm very happy my cat,Simon, also has a strong tie to that region. He has exhibited so many of the character traits of this breed. Thank you again for your site. It has answered many questions.

We found our Turkish Van, Oscar, who was looking for a new home, at our vets just after we had lost our beautiful 17 year old tabby and white cat. We couldn't resist Oscar as he was such a character, but when we got him home he wrecked havoc on our place!! The headbutting, nipping our heels, demanding his food, clawing every piece of furniture and carpet he could find, basically asserting his authority over us all. We almost sent him back but decided we actually loved him and he had a great personality. He doesn't like being handled and I bare the scars of trying to groom him, but after 2 years we adore him and don't care at all that he sheds his fur all over the house. Oscar has finally taken second place in the pecking order, only after my husband however, I am definitely third in line in the pack. He's great company and loves music, he loves listening to classical and jazz music with my husband, and of course never stops eating. Thank you for your great web site, it enabled me to identify Oscar's breed and truly appreciate this extraordinary cat.

We lost our Turkish Van, Mr. K., to an automobile accident yesterday morning (we tried to do what we could to protect him, but as all cat lovers know, sometimes they come to a tragic end anyway). We have owned several cats during our lives, but none were as special as Mr. K. He was undoubtedly the most intelligent, sweetest, and most living we have ever found. He had been abandoned and when he came into our lives he was sick and on the verge of death with upper respiratory and other ailments. We took him to the veterinarian, nurtured him, and loved him. We got over the deaths of other cats pretty quickly, but Mr. K's. death is very hard to take. I highly recommend the breed to anybody, as they will simply get the absolute best cat on earth. hey folks, nice website. maybe someone can help me? i have an 11 year old male cat (Clovis) that we found about 10 years ago. he bears striking simularities to a turkish van both in personality and looks. this is the situation: clovis has recently been diagnosed with diabetes and is not responding well to insulin treatments. i'm wondering if this is something which might be common to the breed? any imput would be greatly appreciated. the next step is to possibly test him for cushings disease- which is not easy to do,apparently. thank you! robin

I have just collected the most adorable, sociable and, in my opinion beutifully marked Turk, and am over the moon. Thank you Marie for parting with your girl, I know how much she meant to you. Look out for her on the show benches and in the future on my site for Classic kittens she may produce. Words can't express how happy I am to have Farfet Benim Lokum.

We got our beautiful Pebbles from our local pet shop 2 & 1/2 years ago. We were very surprised when she started flicking her paws through running water as I brushed my teeth every morning! I had never heard of a Turkish Van until a friend suggested that Pebbles may be one. She has all the markings of a Van - right down to the dark line from her eyes to her cheeks! We have always been complemented on how stunning her coat is - it's so soft too! She's totally loyal & sleeps with me every night (much to my husbands annoyance!) She loves to join in with our dinners & we have trained her that she won't get anything if she begs... so she sits of our laps & just goes to sleep.. knowing that she'll get some eventually! - her favourite is hot potato chips! She loves to play fight with my husband, & follows us constantly. She's very shy though, with people she doesn't know. And her meow is so cute & QUIET! This site has been fantastic - I am now convinced that Pebbles is a Turkish Van - her looks & personality are exactly as you've described. Thanks, Sarah
