| The 2009 CTVCA AGM for the CTVCA
Members was held on
Sunday 5th April 2009 at the Royal British Legion Hall, Yaxley, nr
Peterborough. A big thank you to everyone who helped out with the
arrangements for the day, the photo competition, raffle and Trophy
awarding etc. and not forgetting the wonderful food and cakes
Also, a very big thank you for those people that made the effort to
attend, the furthest to travel was from Scotland.
Without our
MEMBERSHIP,
the CTVCA would not survive. We now have over 100 members and always
welcome anyone that wants to be a MEMBER,
from single membership, to joint membership and now the
new Junior membership. You don't have to be owned by a Turkish Van
or Vans to be a member. We have many members that do not have a
Turkish Van but just love them. So please make sure that you either
become a member or renew your membership so that you can come to the
2010 AGM and enjoy a day out with a wonderful spread of food

before the AGM started. After lunch, the AGM was opened by Joyce
Johnson who gave an opening speech as follows:-
"Good Afternoon Ladies and Gentlemen,
thank you for attending our AGM – it’s lovely to see you all.
40 years ago on the 12th Feb
1969, the Turkish Van Cat was recognised by the GCCF. We owe the
recognition and acceptance of our beautiful cats to the CRCAOV club
and Patsy Knight who worked tirelessly to get our cats recognised.
To celebrate this great achievement, our
own Jenny Eales has made a special cake which I hope you will all
enjoy.

Some people said that Laura Lushington
crossbred her Vans with Persians or Chinchillas because Van cats did
not conform to the British standard, her answer to that was CONFORM
OR NOT the Turkish Van has established a type of its own and to be
classed as a true Van it must be bred solely from Van stock.
Experimental cross breeding might be
interesting but would be unorthodox and the result would not be a
pure Turkish Van Cat. She then adds, I hope I shall not be
condemned for my temerity in trying to genuinely preserve this
wonderful breed.
To Laura and Sonia I say thank you for
all your hard work introducing and preserving this unique breed and
for supporting and trusting us to continue with your work.
Van cats have been domesticated for many
years but now it is only with the support of people who view them
with true affection that they will survive.
Laura is now in her 80’s and in very
poor health, Sonia looks after her but still has a busy life with
her photography. Our best wishes are sent to them both and our
grateful thanks."
This was acknowledged by a round of applause in appreciation.
Following the AGM, we had a great raffle

and fantastic prizes for the photo competition (this year
supplied by Royal Cannin).

And for those that have their cats on the show bench, the chance
of a Trophy to keep for the year. It does not have to be just a
Turkish Van, you can get a Trophy for showing other breeds as well
as household pets. We even award Junior members as well.
This year saw the addition of two new Shields to be added to the
awards, they were the MOONWALKER SHIELD (Best Overall Other
Pedigree - Female) and the ALANTRIS SHIELD (Pedigree Turkish
Van shown by an under 16 year old).
The Trophies and Shields where handed to the winners by the
Chairwoman - Joyce Johnson.
