| This year's AGM was
held in the Oliver Hall, Solihull,
Birmingham. Once again, special thanks to
everyone who brought along food, helped with the teas, and assisted with
the preparation and clearing up of the hall, as well as the washing up!
Many thanks also to everyone who made the effort to attend - without your
dedication and enthusiasm there would be no CTVCA.
The officers' reports highlighted a
reduced membership for this year to date, although we hope to increase our
numbers further during the remainder of the year. Finances were
looking healthy though, boosted significantly by proceeds from our club
table for which we have Lois and Peter Miles to thank not only for their
efforts in running the table, but also for the many hours put into making
most if not all of the beds, cushions, and cat toys available for sale.
We are however reminded that nobody knows what the future holds, and it
may be necessary to draw on our funds at any time to assist in a cat
rescue and rehome.
Sadly we have temporarily relinquished the
Honey Homes. Our landlady has moved home and geographical difficulties
make it very difficult to continue providing the level of attention required by
our rescued cats, some of which have needed multiple trips to the vets, or in
some cases "special handling" until our landlady could weave her magic upon
them! We are now looking for volunteers willing to "adopt" the Honey
Homes, who can maintain the high level of love, care, and devotion offered by
our previous host.
As a result of "troop movements" within the
committee is became necessary to vote on our choice of representatives for the
Turkish Van BAC. The BAC will now be represented by the following five
people: David Heath, Mary Prior, Irene Ford, Steve Lloyd, and Marianne
Upham. Vivienne Heath holds the reserve seat. Nicky Goulter
continues to serve us as Delegate to the GCCF along with one other TBD.
AGM attendees were asked to vote on a
change in the Standard of Points for Turkish Van cats in two aspects.
Firstly, members were asked to vote on a change to the policy relating to eye
colour, the new wording reflecting the fact that the amber eye colour can fade
over time, and can also assume a greenish amber colour. Secondly, members
were asked to consider a change to the description of the head markings, such
that small extensions of colour beyond the the defined limits do not penalise an
otherwise good cat. Both changes were accepted by a majority vote.
In other matters, our webmaster reported a
steady increase in visitors to our website with a hit count of over 39000 to
date, and a continued trickle of new member applications, many from overseas.
The 2003 Poetry and Short Story Competition was heralded a success, raising
around £80 for the club welfare fund. It was also announced that a seminar
would be held by the Semi Longhair BAC on Sunday 25th May 2003 at Mapleborough
Green village hall, Studley, Warwickshire.
The CTVCA is to hold a garden party for
members & their family to celebrate its 10th birthday this year. More
details would follow, however the date was set for Sunday 22nd June, and the
location noted as Sutton Coldfield, West Midlands.
As is traditional, a photo
competition was held in aid of welfare. The winning entries are
shown on this page, with the winners and runners up receiving prizes
donated by Royal Canin and Smilee Pets. A total of 150 entries raised
£72.50 for the club.
The proceeds from this year's
on-the-day raffle was again shared between the club welfare fund and
another charity. This year Wood Green Animal Shelter was our chosen
adopted charity, who received £20 out of the total of £40 raised.
The Annual Raffle, for which
tickets are offered to all club members at subscription time, raised
over £400 and was won by Marianne Upham, who received the beautifully enamelled and mounted
British Mint Crown coin, similar to the one depicted below.

The final event for this year's AGM was the
presentation of trophies and awards. The
honours went to our new Show Support Secretary, Suzann Lloyd, who will be
keeping a keen eye on the show scene in the future and totalling up the points
for next year's results. Pride of place went to Gr Ch & Pr Shadycombe Top Gun
who won the Snowcrest Memorial Trophy for the best overall exhibit in 2002. The
Moustrap Trophy, awarded for the best prefix throughout the year, went to Marie
St Claire (Farfet). Special mention to Mary Prior, who won the
UK Gr
Pr & Ch Coppertop Kismet Special Award for the
best contribution to the CTVCA, and to Hannah who won the Welfare
& Rescue Trophy for the rescue cat of the year.
